The Help
The HELP, formed in early 2007, is a grassroots Community-Based Organization focusing on prevention, care and support and advocacy targeting Men Who have Sex with Men (MSM). It was initiated by young and energetic MSM in Mandalay city in order to create a platform for the voices of vulnerable and stigmatized MSM to be heard and their issues to be taken up at the national level. The organization developed a range of programs to fulfil the unmet needs of MSM (including HIV-positive MSM) and to implement the GIPA-MIPA principle ensuring Greater and Meaningful Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS in the AIDS response. All members of The HELP are MSM and almost half of them are living with HIV. The ultimate goals of The Help are to reduce stigma, discrimination and denial faced by HIV-positive MSM and PLHIV; to build a capable community of MSM and PLHIV who understand and can demand their rights; to increase access to HIV prevention, treatment and care among HIV-positive MSM and other PLHIV; and to strengthen networking among self-help groups of MSM and PLHIV.
